Galvorn - Galvorn was a jet black metal (probably an alloy) devised by the Dark Elf Eöl after he became greatly skilled in metalwork from the Dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost. The unique metal was as strong as the steel of the Dwarves, extremely malleable, and resistant to injury by metal weapons. Its only known use is in Eöl's armour, which he wore whenever he left his forest residence.

Sidenote: Eöl taught all his secrets to his son Maeglin, who later fled to Gondolin. So it is possible that the Elf-smiths of Gondolin also learnt how to make Galvorn armour. In the story 'Of Tuor and his coming to Gondolin' in Unfinished Tales Tuor sees the Guards of the City wearing armour of a strange black metal. This is likely Galvorn.

Mechanics: Armors constructed of Galvorn provide a unique Damage Reduction equal to Double the AC bonus of the armor worn. Such armors have No Max Dexterity Modifier to AC, No Skill Check modifier, and No Arcance Spell Failure chance. Armor Hardness is generally 10 times the Armor Bonus.

Galvorn shields provide a +3 Hardness Bonus to the AC normally gained by a Shield.

Weapons constructed of Galvorn provide a +3 Hardness Bonus to Damage and bypasses Damage Reduction and Hardness of any non-alignment based form. The Critical Threat Range of a Galvorn Weapon increases by one step (20 becomes 19-20, etc) which stacks with other effects such as feats and spells. The Critical Multiplier is also increased by 1 (x2 becomes x3).

Costs: Priceless.

Mithril - Silvery-white, this metal ore is found only in the Mines of Moria and in tales of the lost isle of Numenor. Both Elves and Dwarves are skilled artisans of Mithril, crafting the ore in many exquisite fashions.

The name mithril comes from two words in Sindarinmith, meaning "grey", and ril meaning "glitter". The metal's Quenya name is mistarille. Mithril was also called "true-silver" or "Moria-silver"; the Dwarves had their own secret name for it.

Mechanics: Per DMG, Mithral
