The Mad Scientist Prestige Class

Many a scientist has been driven to madness in the pursuit of Science. Whether they’ve stumbled upon some alien mystery never meant for humanity or the more likely; a facet of science which is vexing and unseemly, there forever remains a chance that a Scientist on the brink of discovery falters on their moral and ethical journey. Such scientists, no matter how brilliant, are branded by the scientific community at large as Mad Scientists.

Madness: When you adopt this Prestige Class, you lose 1d4 points of Wisdom, but gain 2 points of intelligence. This process cannot be reversed, prevented, or undone. Even the powers of the Divine have no effect on Madness. This change is permanent, all changes are calculated prior to gaining skills for this level, increasing the available skill points by at least 1. Furthermore, the Scientist is no longer subject to Emotional or Morale effects, including insanity.


Warped Reality: the Mad Scientist does not live in the same reality as the rest of the world. They see things and imagine things that just don’t exist for the rest of us. The Mad Scientist gains a +4 Insight Bonus to WILL Saves due to his heightened sense of Reality’s failings.


Warped Discovery: Insane whether by their discoveries or lack thereof though they are, Mad Scientists do pose some gains for the scientific community. Without such folk, the arts of Necromancy would be all but lost. Through the pursuit of knowledge, and in the name of science, the Mad Scientist obtains a Warped Discovery for every level acquired in the Mad Scientist Prestige Class. They may select any one of the Warped Discoveries listed below.

Metamagic Feat: The Mad Scientist has learned methods for using the archaic sciences of magic in new and wondrous ways. Each time the Mad Scientist selects this feature as their Warped Discovery, they may select any new Metamagic Feat for which they currently qualify. In addition, the Spell Level cost of a Mad Scientitst’s Metamagic is decreased by 1 level, but no less than 0 level adjustment.

• Newfound Arcana: Each time the Mad Scientist selects this feature for the Warped Discovery Prestige Class Feature, the Mad Scientist selects either one spell of a level 1 higher than they’re currently able to cast or 2 spells of a level equal to or lower than they’re currently able to cast. This spell is a spell-like ability Rite or Ritual. The Mad Scientist may select this feature multiple times, choosing either a new spell of 1 level higher than they were able to cast, or any 2 spells of a level in which they are currently able to cast.
